NYSCC Chair Cathy Piterski provides details on Suppliers’ Day 2019.

It’s been a very busy year for the New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists; the chapter continues to develop novel programs for its members and more are on the way, according to NYSCC chair Cathy Piterski, who gave an update to industry press this week in New York City. NYSCC Suppliers’ Day returns to the Javits Center in New York City, May 7 & 8, 2019. “I want to stress how proud I am of the educational offerings we have made over this past year; nearly all of the programs we produced hit projected attendance numbers and many of them were sold out,” said Piterski. “We also had new initiatives, including the NYSCC Scientific Committee hosting a panel at Makeup in New York to a standing room only crowd.” These types of programs and initiatives are at the very core of NYSCC—fostering education in cosmetic chemistry. According to Piterski, this mission goes beyond the New York area with the chapter continuing its support of SCC programs across the country and around the world. Most recently, for example, NYSCC had a presence at the SCC Southwest Chapter’s Suppliers’ Day in Dallas as well as the 30th Congress of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists, which took place in Munich and is already paying dividends through the creation of new alliances. “Through our participation at the IFSCC in Munich, we are now aligned with the Italian SCC, which is hosting next year’s conference in Milan,” she explained. “We will also have a presence in their booth at Makeup Milan so that we can promote NYSCC Suppliers’ Day 2019.” Bigger & Better Piterski noted that NYSCC Suppliers’ Day 2018 was sold out in terms of exhibition space. For 2019, NYSCC has secured an additional hall in the Javits Convention Center and has already surpassed last year’s expo space. Furthermore, NYSCC has confirmed or re-confirmed partnerships with many of the major publications in the global beauty industry, some of which are managing or moderating conference programs. Happi, for example, will be back in 2019 with sessions devoted to the skin microbiome and the indie beauty movement. NYSCC has also confirmed partnerships with associations and industry groups including Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD), IFSCC and Peclers Paris. In other partnership news, NYSCC has teamed up with Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) to present the scientific award for Innovation in Formulation, which will be made in advance of CEW’s Beauty Awards. The Innovation in Formulation will be made at the Awards event at Supplier’s Day and NYSCC will be a featured sponsor of this category. “This is a major move for NYSCC and Suppliers’ Day as we see the line between marketing and formulation constantly being challenged and blurred by capturing more attention from the brands across all departments that are involved in final delivery of products,” said Piterski. “We will remain ahead of the curve on understanding all elements that impact the ingredients, formulation and delivery.” Another new partnership for 2019 is a full-day program dedicated to fragrance, which will be co-produced by NYSCC and the American Society of Perfumers. With safety and testing of utmost concern in the cosmetics industry, NYSCC has teamed with IKW, a German association that is leading safety and testing education in Europe to create an experiential program, which includes lab time, during Suppliers’ Day 2019. On the subject of labs, Piterski noted that the Future Chemists Workshop will return in 2019, stronger and with more support than ever. “The response from chapters outside of New York has been positive, with Florida and Chicago sending students to participate (and) Florida has committed to increase the number of students they sponsor,” she explained. According to Piterski, NYSCC plans to expand the program to other chapters and continue to ensure that efforts to engage students will support membership efforts. Past achievements and lofty goals like these reinforce the Society’s primary objective—fostering education in cosmetic chemistry.
